Metro cities in India

In India, the term “metro cities” is commonly used to refer to the major metropolitan cities with a high level of economic and infrastructural development. These cities are considered the most populous and important urban centers in the country. As of my knowledge cutoff in September 2021, there are a total of six metro cities in India:

Delhi: The capital city of India, known for its historical significance, political importance, and cultural heritage.

Mumbai: The financial capital of India, located on the western coast of the country. It is the most populous city and a major commercial hub.

Kolkata: Located in the eastern part of India, Kolkata is the capital city of the state of West Bengal. It is known for its rich cultural heritage and intellectual pursuits.

Chennai: Located on the southeastern coast of India, Chennai is the capital city of the state of Tamil Nadu. It is a major center for trade, commerce, and education.

Bengaluru: The capital city of the state of Karnataka, Bengaluru is known as the “Silicon Valley of India” due to its thriving IT industry and technological advancements.

Hyderabad: The capital city of the state of Telangana, Hyderabad is a major center for technology, finance, and pharmaceutical industries. It is also known for its historical landmarks and cuisine.

These cities are often referred to as metro cities due to their large population, extensive transportation networks, diverse industries, and cultural significance. They play a vital role in the economic growth and development of the country. Please note that this list may be subject to change as urban areas evolve and develop over time.
